ABOUT HAIR AND SHOES

10 models. 36 pairs of shoes. 3,000 audience members. And a LOT of hair.
Kathryn Wilson’s NZFW2011 show was epic. When we were collaborating with Kathryn again this year, “epic” was one of the two words we kept using to describe the feel of the show; the other was noted by NZ Herald’s Dan Awa in his glowing one-word, expert eye review: “sexy”.
We could go on to describe how it all came together, but why when Garth Badger’s 12 minute documentary that played just before the show does so much more than that?
Our concept for the hair, and indeed the whole show, came from the film, Nine ½ Weeks, starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger. We wanted the girls to look like they’d just slid out of bed after some passionate romancing, with loads of curl, volume and movement. We wanted it to be glamorous, “epic” and “sexy”.
Again this year, we decided to wrap our salon in images related to the show. We worked on a shoot with photographer Garth Badger, stylist Barry Betham, makeup artist Kiri O'Brien from M.A.C and model Tia Woods from Clyne. The result was super hot!
Another exciting part of working on this show is that we had the opportunity to work with Kimbra again (having already styled her hair for a magazine shoot earlier on in the week). After the catwalk show, she performed a live set from her debut album, Vows. She is such a beautiful creature, and her and Danny got along famously.
We adore Kathryn Wilson and her fabulous footwear, and love collaborating with her.
They say that you can rock any outfit with great hair and great shoes. We couldn’t agree more.
